While the Julian Alps predominantly lie in Slovenia, I have frequently explored the lesser-known Italian segment of this majestic range, particularly to reconnect with friends in the quaint ski village of Sella Nevea. The landscape is breathtaking: sharp white limestone summits rise above enigmatic valleys cloaked in dense pine forests. The writings of mountaineer Julius kugy beautifully capture this vast wilderness, which continues to astonish me with its obscurity.This region teems with diverse wildlife, including large mammals and a variety of bird species amidst rich flora. Serenity Among Orchids and seabirds in Sweden

Stora Karlsö is a rugged limestone island located off Gotland’s west coast and ranks among the oldest nature reserves globally.A few hours from Stockholm by train and ferry, it features steep cliffs alongside an alvar plateau filled with lush grasses. The island boasts an abundance of orchids and seabird populations; once sheltered from gusts, I was enveloped by its delightful fragrances. My overnight stay in a modest cabin was complemented by a satisfying meal far removed from urban life—cell reception was nearly nonexistent.

Nestled between Toulon and the Mediterranean Sea lies Hyères, characterized by headlands, salt flats, and offshore islands that create stunning landscapes for exploration.We settled near Giens peninsula where ancient pink salt marshes extend toward azure waters populated by flamingos,herons,and egrets alike. Coastal trails meander over rugged cliffs adorned with pine trees while scattered islands enhance this picturesque setting filled with seabirds and wildflowers.

Camino de Santiago: Exploring Alternate routes
,my wife and I embarked on a remarkable journey along the Camino de Santiago—a sprawling trek spanning approximately <strong>500 miles (805 km)</strong> across northern Spain! While popular routes were bustling with fellow travelers we seized every chance to explore option paths less traveled.<br />
As we crossed Meseta—the expansive high central plateau known for its solitude—we diverted from Calzada del Coto to Mansilla de las Mulas via Via Trajana—an ancient cobbled Roman road surrounded by melodious birdsong amid vibrant wildflowers.<br />
Aside from our restful nights at Via Trajana hostel where hearty breakfasts awaited us after long days walking—over two days covering <strong>20 miles</strong>, we encountered only two other hikers.<br /><strong>Richard<strong/></p>
