Granola, often compared to muesli, is typically baked with a sweet syrup such as honey, maple syrup, or golden syrup. This delightful treat is inherently sugary, and due to my personal inclination towards sugar addiction, I indulge in it sparingly. The finest granolas are characterized by their golden clusters; they strike a balance of sweetness (ideally under 10% for low sugar and over 15% for high) complemented by a hint of salt and an assortment of whole grains, nuts, seeds, and dried fruits. My favorites also include toasted coconut for added depth and flavor without significantly increasing the cost.
The quality among the granolas tested was impressively high overall. There were nutty bargains alongside indulgent treats packed with sugar and surprisingly healthy options that maintained low sugar content.
